Become an Intern!

The VMCL internship program is more than just an opportunity for students to volunteer their time and talents to a worthy cause. We believe we have a responsibility to mentor our interns, teaching them the skills they need to grow and providing opportunities for networking and career advancement.

We currently have three different intern positions:

Policy

Policy interns are responsible for researching topics and current events that affect Muslim communities. They will monitor legislation in the General Assembly, School Boards & County Administrations, and help to translate complex policy issues into easily understood language.

Communications

Help us spread the word about our programs and events by creating and curating social media contact, drafting press releases, and tracking media engagement. Our communication interns help us write the narratives of Muslim community empowerment throughout Virginia!

Outreach

Outreach and grassroots organizing is all about building relationships and getting our communities engaged! Our outreach interns help manage our interfaith partnerships, coalition building, and Muslim community engagement.

Requirements Include:

  • Approximately ten hours of time commitment per week.

  • Familiarity with Office and Google Suite programs, and other relevant technical software.

  • Skills and traits necessary to manage tasks with minimal oversight, including time management and a detail-oriented, professional work ethic.

  • While much of the work can be done virtually, being able to attend events and meetings, possibly in the evenings and weekends, is a plus!
